THE ROLE
Canyon operates a diverse digital landscape spanning SAP S/4HANA, Salesforce (Commerce, Service, Marketing, and Data Cloud), IoT-connected bike platforms, and Azure cloud-native microservices. We have established a company-wide API & Clean Core Mandate: custom logic lives in microservices, exposed via APIs. We are looking for a Senior Software Architect to be the driving force behind this mandate - guiding teams on the boundaries between platform configuration and external services, designing the API standards that connect our ecosystem (including our Native App via Azure-based BFF), and enforcing the discipline that keeps our cores clean as we scale.
This role is based in our Canyon Tech Hub Barcelona, bringing together top tech talent to shape the future of cycling.
YOUR JOB AS PART OF THE CANYON CREW
- Strategic Assessment: Analyze the current integration landscape across SAP, Salesforce, and Azure backends to identify clean core violations and extraction opportunities.
- API Standards & Lifecycle: Establish and refine Canyon’s API design standards, including contract-first development, versioning, naming conventions, and lifecycle management.
- Architecture Design: Create reference architectures for side-by-side extensions on SAP BTP, event-driven integrations from Salesforce, and Azure-based Backend-for-Frontend (BFF) layers for our native mobile applications.
- Decision Framework: Define the criteria that help teams determine whether a requirement belongs in the platform core or an Azure microservice (focusing on reusability and upgradability).
- Migration Leadership: Drive the "extract when you touch" approach, helping teams plan the migration of existing platform customizations into modern Azure-hosted services.
- Governance & Review: Own the architecture review process as an enforcement mechanism for the mandate, ensuring each service is a well-defined product with a clear API contract.
- Ecosystem Synergy: Collaborate with Platform Engineering to shape microservice boilerplates, CI/CD templates, and Azure API Management configurations.
- Discoverability: Drive API governance by ensuring every service and its contract is registered in the Canyon service catalog with clear ownership and documentation.
HOW YOU BECOME PART OF THE RACE
- Professional Foundation: A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Extensive Experience: 7+ years in software engineering, with at least 3 years in an architecture or senior technical leadership role.
- Cloud Expertise: Proven track record in designing and deploying scalable architectures on Microsoft Azure, specifically utilizing Azure Container Apps (ACA), App Services, or Functions.
- API Mastery: Deep understanding of API design principles (REST, GraphQL, OpenAPI) and a strong advocate for contract-first development.
- Enterprise Ecosystems: Experience designing integration architectures involving SAP (BTP) and/or Salesforce environments.
- Microservice Expertise: Strong grasp of domain-driven design (DDD), service decomposition, and data ownership patterns.
- Integration Patterns: Solid understanding of event-driven architectures, messaging (e.g., Service Bus, Event Mesh, Kafka), and eventual consistency.
- Strategic Mindset: Ability to communicate technical tradeoffs to both engineering and business stakeholders while driving incremental migration strategies.
- Language Proficiency: Confident communication skills in English (spoken and written).
TECHNICAL ENVIRONMENT
- Cloud & Infrastructure: Microsoft Azure (API Management, Service Bus, Functions, Azure Container Apps), Infrastructure as Code (Terraform/Bicep).
- Enterprise Platforms: SAP S/4HANA, SAP BTP (Integration Suite, Event Mesh), Salesforce Core & Data Clouds.
- Integration & APIs: RESTful/Event-driven APIs, OpenAPI/AsyncAPI, OAuth2/JWT, Service Catalogs.
- Architecture: Microservices, Side-by-side extensions, BFF patterns, Serverless.
- Observability: Distributed tracing, structured logging (Azure Monitor/Log Analytics), and metrics across service boundaries.
Please note: Applications must be submitted in English.
